The Buffalo Mound Presents:

"How My Horse, King, Got the Wrong Message,"

by Pearl Ginther (age 99)

I was on the horse we called King, and we were going down the road, and telephone poles had just been put in so that people could hook up and have telephones for the first time. King was not used to the telephone ploles by the side of the road. He walked too close to one, and my shoe brushed against it. This new sound startled him, and he got the wrong message! He reared up high, and I slid right down his back and landed on the ground, on my back, and saw stars!

Was any thing broken? I didn't move right away, just turned my head to look, and I saw King had galloped off over the hill and stood a ways down the road, and he had his head raised high. King was looking my way to see if I was all right, and when he saw me, he just started eating grass, for he knew I was all right. I got up to my feet, and found no bones broken. King was still eating grass when I came up to him. It wasn't far from that spot, so I just walked him the rest of the way home.
